Welcome to Year 1!
Welcome to Year One where our children develop and extend their learning from Reception, building on their skills and knowledge so they can move onto the next stage of their learning journey. My name is Miss Cole and we are very lucky to have Miss Taylor as our teaching assistant. Life in Year One is vibrant and fun! We passionately believe that young children learn best through play and exploration. Wherever possible we offer children the best opportunity to experience real life events that are linked to their learning. Everyday our children get the opportunity to be an artist, writer, mathematician, scientist, designer and a storyteller. These experiences enable the children to consolidate their skills, knowledge and understanding and allow them to become independent and resilient learners.
We learn about a variety of interesting and exciting topics this year:
- Penguins, Possums and Pigs
- The Great Fire of London
- Family Album
- Growth and Green Fingers
- The Great Outdoors
- Robots
In Penguins, Possums and Pigs we explore animals from hot and cold places. Then we travel back in time to learn about The Great Fire of London. Next, we learn about all our different families. After that, we explore plant life and all things green. Then, we head outside to explore the great outdoors and build dens. Finally, we are sent into the future to look at the mechanics of robots.
