Welcome to Reception Class

Hello! My name is Mrs Stevens and I am the Reception Teacher here at West End School alongside Mrs Jackson who is our fantastic Nursery Nurse. We are very lucky to be in the position that the curriculum in the Early Years is led by the children’s interests so the learning every year looks slightly different according to the cohort. We are an Early Adopter of the new Early Years Curriculum this year which we are very excited about.
 
Learning in Reception is very much play based, building up the children’s skills and language. We do a mixture of indoor activities and also outdoor activities and are very privileged to have a Forest Schools lead (Mrs Bell) who comes and works with our class on a Thursday and a Friday. We do daily phonics sessions and follow the Read Write Inc phonics scheme.
